Why is it impossible to control the input level with the WinMLS mixer?

This has been reported for some sound cards, e.g. Soundblaster cards (Live, 128). This seems to be because there seems to be a bug in the sound card driver. On how to fix this, see the Specific sound card settings section in the Measurement->Sound Card… referenced section.
